Travelling to USA with Kids

I have been wanting to blog about our trip to America in September {7th of September – 6th of October}  for simply yonkers now. Finally now that I have got my photo’s off the multiple SD cards and found my notes,

It’s time to share our America trip!

After our initial nightmarish flight {read more about that here}, we arrived at our first Anaheim hotel via Payless Airport Shuttle.

First up, Payless Airport Shuttle  were awesome. Even with the flight delay, we sent a quick in-flight email and our time was rescheduled easily. When we arrived at the LAX airport we sent through a text message to Payless Airport Shuttle. They then promptly contacted their waiting driver who swooped around to the front and picked us up. The Payless Airport Shuttle van was clean, air conditioned and fitted with two car seats. Oh and the driver was happy to just sit there and drive while we passed out in the van.

Howard Johnson Anaheim

Upon arriving at the Howard Johnson Anaheim, we headed to the front office to be greeted by happy reception staff. The only downer I can say about our reception experience, is that we were never told about the luggage trolley’s available which meant we ended up lugging the luggage and grumpy kids {and adults} to the back of the resort.

Our room at the Howard Johnson was located towards the back {block 2}, which is the one we requested after a recommendation from a family who had stayed there earlier. Apparently the front ones can get a bit of road noise as it located between Harbor Boulevard that passes by the front of Disneyland and the main highway.

The room we had booked was a queen deluxe room, which was fine for us as we weren’t planning on spending much time in the room. It was basically one large room with two queen beds and one roll-away {folding bed}. In hindsight I would have upgraded to the King or Queen Bunk bed Suite, as it would have provided more space for the little people and allowed them to sleep easier in a separate room. The queen deluxe room was clean, neat and well maintained.  The beds were soft and covered with gigantic pillows. The description of the queen deluxe room on the Howard Johnson website is smack on what you receive if you book this room.

Right outside our window was the ‘Garden Pool’ at the time we visited there wasn’t much garden as they were renovating around it. We never ended up visiting that pool, as it was too deep for the little people.

Castaway Cove

The boys soon discovered the other pool area ‘Castaway Cove’ and fell head over heels with pool love. Castaway Cove is magic and the perfect place to visit after a long day at the lands. With its water slides, bucket that dumps water, whirlpool spa, toddler pool and endless fresh towels, it is the perfect place for everyone. All it is lacking is a bar, a mum can dream hey!

Main Street Market {an onsite shop} was another plus, they had plenty of options for breakfast supplies, snacks, merchandise, phone cards, postcards  and stamps. You can get your first taste of American sweetness and drink pop! Woot woot!

Right across from the Market is a games room with old school arcade games, for the bigger kids.

One of the top ‘Howard Johnson’ highlights  was the free WIFI! It had great service and was available for everyone with a WIFI connectable device. A great way to stay connected to everyone at home or in your family group where ever you were at the Howard Johnson Hotel.

‘Howard Johnson’ is located ideally for the holiday family that has eyes for everything Mickey shaped. They even gift you a few vouchers to use at Disneyland during your stay. ‘Howard Johnson’ is immediately across the road from the back of Disneyland! Imagine every night being able to see the Disney fireworks, well you can from your Howard Johnson balcony! Walk eight minutes down the road and you reach the gates of Disneyland and California Land, no shuttle needed. Pop the little ones in a stroller and walk on down and then when they get tired walk back for afternoon nap and then head back for fireworks…you get the picture it’s location is awesome!
