Call me craft crazy, but after last weeks ‘playdough’ reviews, I then started thinking about how we use to use salt dough to make ornaments and figurines when we were kids and after a quick goggle search I was once again struck with an assortment of recipes!

Well…you guessed it…how could I just make up just one recipe…

Salt Dough

A trio of Salt Dough Recipes, well actually one doesn’t contain salt but I really wanted to see it’s results so it got thrown in the trio {sshhh don’t tell the other doughs that it’s a fraudster}

Salt Dough

Salt Dough Decorations Recipe

from All Recipes

1 1/2 cups plain flour

1/2 cup fine table salt

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

2/3 cup chilled water

Mixed together flour and salt, add oil and gradually add water. Knead together on the table.

Cook in an oven preheated to 100 degrees until dry.

Tip – we had to add to had an extra 1/2 cup of water.

Review – besides needing the extra water, the dough was easy to roll out and cut out with cookie cutters.

Salt Dough

Easy Salt Dough Ornaments
from Imagination Tree

1 cup of salt

1 cup of flour

1/2 cup of water

Mix all together, knead together on table.

Cook in an oven preheated to 100 degrees until dry.

Tip – Add a little less water or more flour to get a firmer dough.

Review – waaaayyyyy to wet to cut a sharp shape out of this dough.

Salt Dough

Keepsake Play Dough Recipe

from Kidspot

1 cup of cornflour

2 cups of baking soda

1 1/4 cup of water

Add to a saucepan and begin stirring, after around 3 -5 mins it will begin to thicken up and come together. I added some food colour then. I would recommend you add it at the start, as ours was a little like a tie dyed tee until I kneaded it for a while.

Tip – After you cook this dough, get rolling and use this dough as soon as it’s cool enough and enjoy the warm feel of the dough.

Review – beautiful smooth dough, I look forward to seeing how long it takes to dry and what the end results look like!

If you want to see our salt dough and other dough creations and how we decorated them pop past later in the week for a reveal,

Light, laughter and rolling, rolling, rolling AGAIN!
